Numb legs and low back pain can it relate to cancer?

I have recently been facing a number of health challenges. One that seems related to this board is my legs going totaly numb from the top down mostly on the front side when I do activities. The scary part is it is no longer going away in between episodes. I am also currently booked for a biopsy to check for cancer in a number of rather large swollen lymph nodes in my lower back/groin area (up to 4.1CM). Can this relate to cancer? I don't have terrible sciatic pain at this time but I have in the past.

Re: Numb legs and low back pain can it relate to cancer?

I wanted to acknowledge your post but cannot offer any comments. Back pain and sciatic-type pain that radiate down the leg or legs is often from a problem in the spine, but it can also be a symptom of other issues as well. I think your best bet would be to discuss this with the specialist who is managing your other health issues.

It is certainly possible to have a tumor located either in a bone of the spine, or in the soft tissue in the spinal area that can cause symptoms similar to a herniated disc with resulting sciatic pain. Pain that runs down the front of the thigh is often referred from the lumbar 3 or 4 segment of the spine.

Good luck to you. I hope you will be able to find some answers.

Thanks Tetonteri,
I had my biopsy and got the results back. It is an aggressive B-cell Lyphoma, they are still trying to determine exactly which one. I assume it will explain my leg issues.
Thanks for your reply.

Re: Numb legs and low back pain can it relate to cancer?

Pip,

I just want to give you thoughts of encouragement and support. It's really amazing what our modern medicine is able to do with cancer these days, so keep your chin up and walk with your head held up high during your upcoming battle. Both of my parents have battled cancer and both are still alive and doing well after 15+ years of being diagnosed.

I'll pray for your doctors to be able to figure this out quickly and have the wisdom to treat it appropriately, and for you to have comfort and that the numbness in your legs goes away quickly.

Take care of yourself, and know that there are many of us out here who really care about you.
