Re: back problems and nerve damage left leg

Hi, and welcome to the board, tho I am so sorry that you are having so much pain. I would assume you have had a recent MRI.....have you seen a spine specialist? It sounds to me that you have some serious nerve compression going on which can lead to permanent damage.

If you are not under the care of either an Orthopedic Spine Specialist, or a Neurosurgeon who devotes the majority of his practice to spinal issues, then I think it imperative to try to see one as soon as possible. If you have already done so, and if treatment hasn't helped, I would then get a second opinion and even a third as to what would help you best.

There are medications that help with nerve pain such as neurontin, topomas, or Lyrica; however, any treatment will only mask the symptoms and should be only a part of the picture until you can get those nerves freed up.

I wish you good luck and the help you need to feel better.

Carol

Re: back problems and nerve damage left leg

I have had several rejections from several other orthopedic doctors, because they dont want to touch another doctors work. My original doctor no longer does backs, a coincidence after he screwed up on mine and several others. i will tell my family doctor about those other meds. I go to see 2 different pain doctors soon lets see if the 2 of them can shed some light on my pain and help me. I have had nerve conduction tests done and they say there is severe damage to the nerves in my leg, they are also thinking bone fragment damage from all the times I have fallen unexpectedley they have requested more MRIs, we will see.It is nice to know that i am not alone at this and nice to chat to someone who understands the pain we go through THANK YOU

Re: back problems and nerve damage left leg

My goodness. How awful that other doctors have turned you down for the care you badly need. Please don't give up the search....you really do need to get those nerves freed. Perhaps one of your doctors can find someone for you if you haven't already asked them for help. I know that doctors are nervous about taking on a patient whose previous surgery was done by someone else, but doctors retire, die, or move and does that mean that all their patients must live in extreme pain forever?? That just doesn't make any sense to me at all and, truthfully, it makes me angry that the people who promised to "do no harm" would send you away knowing that the nerve damage could become permanent.

I am so sorry for the mess you are in and hope that you will perservere in your attempt to find the help you need and deserve. Please do let me know what comes of your next visit to the pain doctor.

Hugs,

Carol

"""I have had several rejections from several other orthopedic doctors, because they dont want to touch another doctors work."""

..National epidemic. There's not much money to be made looking at someone who's already been on the butcher table. Once damage is done, it's done.
