spine fracture could use some input

I fell a week ago tomorrow, cracked a vertabrea...er doc didnt tell me which one and to be honest by the time he got to me the pain meds had kicked in and i didnt care lol...he gave me loratab, and percocet < may not be spelled right..anyhow im doing better i can finally sit up and walk around some...its in my lower back by the way i have a dull pain that goes down my right leg, my hips are out of wack of course, but Im getting so stiff when i sleep at night that it makes it very hard to get out of bed...too early for arthritis to set in i think so not sure whats going on there but i was wondering if i should see my chiropractor to realign my back if that might help some? or should i wait?
anyone thats had a similar fracture i could sure use some input as to what to expect, how long to heal, ways to help with the pain etc.

Hi, hey you. I definetly would not recommend seeing a chiropractor...not with a cracked vertabrae! Instead, find a good spine specialist; that would be either a neurosureon or orthopedic surgeon with a fellowship for treating spine issues. These doctors limit their practices to spine and neck problems only and see no other kinds of problems. They can best know what kind of imaging you might need and the best treatment for you. Until then, seeing a chiro can cause you more damage and it isn't worth the chance.

There is no way to know how long it will take to heal, as we all heal at our own rate.....much will depend on where the craced vertabrae is, how bad it is, etc. You can best help yourself by not doing things that cause pain. Avoid lifting, twisting, and any motion that hurts.

Could you tell us where the pain is and what kind of pain you are having? That could help us to pin things down and perhaps make more suggestions to help while you wait to see the doctor.

I hope you will let us know how you are and what you find out about your injury. Best of luck!

Carol

Re: spine fracture could use some input

Im guessing but i think its either the L2, L3, or L4 that is cracked...along that area is very tender to touch...the pain is mostly on my right side, rib area, right leg, right hip, most of the lower back area hurts, with some burning from time to time in my middle back....Im supposed to follow up in another week
