back pain

I am suffering from disk bulgement and i have very low mobility, most of time laying down in bed, not even sitting. Due to this situation I gained 8 kg during last 8 months. I can't exercise and i cut out my food.
I take Gabapentin 900mg /day and Ibo-profen 800mg/day which seems doesn`t kill my pain at all?. I am not sure if this drugs cause the gain weight. I only consume 1000 calories food per day. Any advise how i can loose some extra weight.

Thanks,

Re: back pain

I don't know about you but, I too have weight gain from sitting around to much. I have started drinking alot of water.(bottled) This keeps my stomach full and definately curbs my appetite quite a bit. I have shed some of the weight I gained. Best to you!

Re: back pain

Even w/o moving, you likely need more than 1000 cals. Eating too little will reduce your metabolism more as your body kinda panics and hold on to everything it gets. Consider seeing a nutritionist (one with actual degrees in such thing) but I'd go more 1200-1500. Dr Dad also says healing takes calories and will not happen if you do not feed yourself well

Re: back pain

Many people gain quite a bit of weight on gabapentin. It seems to increase appetite, and then, as everyone said, with the pain it is difficult to get much exercise.

I would suggest you eat some protein with every meal or snack, and drink lots of water. It is good for the discs as well as the appetite.

Know you are not alone in this struggle. When you have back pain, it is really difficult to avoid gaining weight.
