Throbbing Back Pain around left shoulder Blade

I need some advice about this back pain I am having.

In September I was in the Dominican Republic on vacation. When I got back from vacation I had this throbbing pain for days. Sometimes it was worse than others. It would happen about every 90 seconds or so. I was concerned b/c I never had this type of pain before.
Towards the end of October/early November it subsided a lot but did not go away 100%. Around thanksgiving time it was pretty much gone. Now it just started up again and it happens every few days. I'm not sure what to think.
I did some research online and thought I caught an STD or even HIV b/c muscle and joint pain is a symptom. However after going on the HIV & STD forums I've been told that my issue is totally unrelated to STD's and HIV.
I lost my job in august and no longer have insurance. My doctor wants me to go ahead and get some blood work and some back X-Rays/MRI to see what is going on, but until I get insured again I simply can't afford it. My only option would be to buy one of those online health insurances for a month or so and then cancel it.
I'd also like to mention I've had a lot of anxiety due to this job loss and it caused excessive underarm sweats as well. I'm not sure if the anxiety is part of the back pain or not. I know the back pain started in the Dominican Republic when I slept the wrong way and woke up with a stiff neck and then got worse when I returned home to the United States.
I have returned to work so the anxiety is gone but I know I am not eligible for medical insurance until at least April.

I really need some advice

Thanks

Re: Throbbing Back Pain around left shoulder Blade

If the pain is up around your shoulder it could be related to problems in the cervical spine (neck). You'd have to have an MRI and an evaluation by an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon or Neurosurgeon.

Perhaps your state offers insurance for the uninsured/uninsurable/low income.
