back pain management

HISTORY: work related mid back sprain July 1, 2011 from pushing a heavy cart around the corner. Lots of muscle pain and hypertonicity on right side of back spreading up into neck.

TREATMENTS so far: physiotherapy with intensive exercises has made me feel stronger but I have regressed and getting worse because I think I was overdoing it with the exercises.

XRAY of mid-back showed: there is some ossification in the intervertebral body ligament of the mid-back. no significant abnormality.

CURRENTLY: my lower mid part of my back seems to be mostly healed except I do have problems with the lat muscle being fatigued quite easily. I used to have alot of spinal joint pain there but it feels better. NOW my biggest problem is around T4-5 between the shoulder blades. There is lots of tight muscles around there and I get alot of pressure pain right on the spine there which freaks me out. The pressure increases the more I am upright and I feel better laying down. I get these sharp twinges almost like something is tearing when I move certain ways especially using the right arm to cross over body for whatever reason.

I have seen a chiropractor 3 times recently who said that maybe I am developing ankylosing spondylitis because at my age of 36 it is uncommon to have this calcification with pain problem. I am totally freaking out...I am depressed and don't know what to do.

I take naproxyn about once per day and use ice when it is at its worse and heat throughout the day. I do stretches and have stopped the actual strengthening exercises for now.

Any thoughts on what my problem is ??

I know about 5 weeks ago a physiotherapist worked on me and pushed really hard down on my spine up and down my back which caused a ton of pain especially in this T4ish area and I have been really bad since she did that.

What is the tearing feeling / sharp pains that I feel. What is the pressure that I am feeling.

I really am starting to feel like I just want to stay in bed because the pressure doesn't build up in my back in that area if I stay laying down but I know laying down isn't good either.

Re: back pain management

I'd see your general practitioner and get a referral to a specialist if you haven't already. There may be something else lurking in there.

Re: back pain management

An xray is ok when looking at problems but an MRI is better. You may need an MRI to see better what is going on.
