Unhappy Chronic Back pain

Please someone help me! I have had 2 surgeries on back, and have tried all of the procedures that pain management doctor can do. I had laser surgery done in Florida, and now pain management doctor and a fellow neurosurgeon that PM doctor sent me to have agreed that the laser surgery burnt and damaged a nerve that is causing more pain that before I went there. They have also agreed that this damage cannot be repaired. Another surgery on L4-L5 and S1 is not an option.

Re: Chronic Back pain

That's a real drag that the laser surgery burned and damaged a nerve. Unfortunately, there is no way to repair a nerve that has been damaged. Sorry to hear you are going through this. I don't know much about nerves and managing pain from them. There are some pretty knowledgeable people around here that may be able to give you some ideas.

Re: Chronic Back pain

They cannot surgically repair a nerve but a damaged nerve can regenerate itself. This of course can take a very long time up to two years. I pray that in your case the healing process takes place.

Re: Chronic Back pain

hi so sorry you are going thru this. Have you tried any of the nerve pain meds out there like lyrica, neurontin, topamax? (I know there are others). They can be really helping in managing the pain, I take topamax myself. Just be sure to start out on low dose like 25 mg to help prevent side effects.
