When i stand i get numbness around the outside of my knee on my right leg, as soon as i move it stops. On my left side i get pain in the shin and calf area and also in my groin. I wake at night with the pain on my left groin area and can't lie on that side. I have lower back pain and tail bone pain ( to where if hurts bad when i have been sitting) I get lower back and sciatica pain when i am cleaning ( like sweeping the floor or vaccuming etc ) or standing too long. It hurts so bad i have to stop and sit. Could all this be coming from my lower back. I have dealt with pain for a long time, but this in my left groin and shin is concerning me more than anything. Has anyone had this type of symptoms with lower back pain? I have a doctor appt for next.

I get numbness, tingling, tightness, sharp shooting pains in my left calf all the time. Sometimes when walking my calf will just seize-I have to sit down to work it out-and I can resume walking (but my entire calf and leg feels super heavy and that side doesn't recruit correctly) My left calf swells (MRI show edema in all calf muscles without certain etiology). I also am develping numbing, tingling in my left thigh and groin. I get tightness and burning pain near the outside of my right knee and down the outer calf on my right side. I, too, have difficulty laying on either side. It hurts my left more than my right but when I sleep both of my legs tingle and kinda go numb.
I saw my spinal surgeon last week to review my lumbar MRI. I have advaced/severe facet arthritis and I also have spinal stenosis at L3/L4. I am going to try an ESI (Epiduarl Steroid Injection) as soon as it is approved by insurance. Surgeon thinks I need a Lamenectomy and I am trying to put it off till November. I've been dealing with the left side stuff for about 4 years now and it is getting worse. Like you, I keep wondering if this can all REALLY come from my back problems but it seems like it does. (You can check out a dermatome map, which describes the relationship between spinal nerve fibers and muscle groups).
Oh gosh you are having a horrible time of it. I will definately check the map out. Thankyou Its so frustrating, i know i will probs at the least end up with Physical Therapy. I have had that before as i have a bulging disk in my neck and lower back. I also have a small cyst in my spinal cord. Was diagnosed with them a few years ago. Just wonder now if these could be getting worse Hope all goes well for you with the Injection. thanks again, Saltire
Omg the thought of injections scares me. I had a steriod injection in my wrist years ago and i will never forget the pain from it. Not at the time but that evening. It was horrible and didn't even fix the problem. I am going to go to my doctor ( regular doctor) and see what he suggests. I can't even stand to do dishes without it getting very painful ( the sciatic pain) thanks for your replies
You may want to ask about some type of arthritis that affects the spine like Ankylosing spondylitis, which "is a long-term disease that causes inflammation of the joints between the spinal bones, and the joints between the spine and pelvis." (PubMed)
