Back pain still lingering...

What could it be?

For about a month or so. More like three weeks, I've had some back pain in the lower part of my back. It has went as high as the bottom of my shoulder blade and been sharp at times.

I've called my doctor and he prescribed an anti-inflammatory, hydros and a muscle relaxer for 30 days. The pain still comes and goes since I've been on these, but it's not as bad.

I've tried a couple of things like getting a new chair at work that provides better back support, cutting out some of the cycling (stationary bike) I was doing and putting a feather bed on our current mattress.

Sometimes the pain radiates around into my rib cage and I've had a little bit of discomfort in my left pelvic region.

Re: Back pain still lingering...

This sounds mechanical, i.e. not a kidney problem, and could be anything ranging from a sprain/strain to a herniated disc. Has your doctor evaluated you, or just phoned in a prescription? Since your problems haven't resolved, you might want to make an appointment for an office visit to get evaluated if you have not been seen in person.

I haven't been in yet. Trying the meds for the month he's prescribed them and seeing how it feels when I've run that course.

I figure if it's a sprain/strain or back problem that it'll work it's way out and the meds will help.

When I rest for a day (I have Wednesdays and most weekends off at my job) and sit around the house, the pain isn't usually around as much.
