Bone marrow for fusion occiput to c3

I was told today by another surgeon that he would fuse occiput to c3 and would use synthetic bone with bone marrow taken from my hip. He would have to use rods also to hold the occiput. What are your thoughts on this? I feel better knowing they can use marrow instead of BMP or hip bone. Would love to hear your opinions.

Are you still scheduled for surgery on Friday?

Isn't this a couple levels more than what the other surgeon is planning?

Re: Bone marrow for fusion occiput to c3

I've been trying to read up on these high cervical fusions and have run across what sounds like somewhat new technology involving some sort of 3-D vision that helps to guide the surgeon. Are you familiar with this?

For example, there are two major spine surgery hospitals in Philadelphia. One uses this technology and the other does not...but I don't know if it is because they just don't have it yet...or choose to not use it for some valid reason....
