| Lower Back Pain for 6 Months
I am a 28 year old male in good health. For over the last 6 months I have had increasingly worse back pain. To start my wife and I went out and bought a new bed, we probably made a mistake in buying a plush bed, the idea was if I allow my butt to sink a little that will allow the bed to push up on my spine. I slept ok for a few nights but the pain was increasing and it started where I couldn't even lay on my back for more than 10 minutes without it starting to ache and get tight. I then reluctantly went to a chiropractor who did x-rays and said those looked ideal other than when I bend over (hands touching toes) my back should curve a little more than it did and that I needed to do exercises daily to stretch my lower back and that would help. He also did his "adjustment" twice on my back but I didn’t really care for that so I stopped going. I have had two massages that seem to help for a couple days but ultimately the pain comes right back. I keep coming back to the bed being the issue because I went out of town for work about a month ago and the bed I had in my hotel was a firm bed and I have never felt so great as I did for those 4 days I was away from my home. Additionally the last few nights I have been sleeping on the floor with a 4 inch mattress bad and the pain has been less, but not completely gone (I partly think the pad is too soft as it has been slept on and is no longer as firm as it once was). Today I saw a back specialist and he didn’t really want to hear much about the bed, he thinks I need to get an MRI because I could have an injured disc. He thinks this because the pain is pinpointed right in the middle of the lumbar spine and it doesn’t really hurt on either side, just right in that one spot. Additional notes, I have been doing exercises and stretches that feels good while I do them; I then Ice and my back feels really good for about 30 minutes but then the pain slowly comes back as the cold subsides from the icing. Also, sitting helps if I have support. Standing is the worst, after 10 minutes of standing I start to get pain really bad in the one spot, then laying is second worst. I just have to constantly change my position to keep the pain away. Should I get the MRI from the back specialist or I have been thinking about buying a firm memory foam mattress and see if this helps the pain. Thanks in advance.
