Smile 5 herniated discs in my t spine :(

Got back results for my mri.. I have herniated discs in my T1-2, T3-4, T4-5, T5-6 and T8-9 I am happy to finally find the source of my pain when all my doctors kept calling it anxiety and stress and didn't believe the amount of pain I am in. Now they are ordering mri of cervical and lumbar. I am 32 and have 3 very small children I feel like I cant be the mom I need to be. I tried researching the area, I found that a herniated disc in this area is rare affecting 1 person in 1 million Americans and I have 5. I also read that it is quite rare to have them in the upper thoracic area because most would have them in the lumbar area... I go for pain management soon and I have a nerve damage text on Wednesday... I'm kind of terrified right now my chest feels like someone is tearing through it and my stomach hurts like I did a million sit ups...am I alone? Its so painful and all I have for pain is heat and 800 Mg ibuprophin but that hurts my stomach any suggestions on relief? I can only sleep on my stomach as sleeping any other way causes more pain and makes my limbs on my left fall asleep... I just made things worse by wrapping gifts I knew it was a bad idea

Re: 5 herniated discs in my t spine :(

You are most definitely not alone. It is rough but you will get through. I would seek a pain management doctor and maybe some physical therapy may help, or a series of injections. What do you think may have caused the injury? Hope you feel better soon.

Re: 5 herniated discs in my t spine :(

Have had no injury to the area... none that I recall... I was never in an accident or anything? The worst that has ever happened to me is giving birth three times...lol. I am baffled as to why. Although my mother and her brothers all have DDD and until I have the mri of my cervical and lumbar I wont know more unless when I go for my nerve testing he finally tells me more? I am still kind of In the dark

Re: 5 herniated discs in my t spine :(

It is unusual to have more than one herniated thoracic disc...you are right about that. Are you seeing a spine specialist? It will be very important that your case is managed by either an orthopedic spine surgeon or s neurosurgeon. I would explore things like ankylosing spondilitis or something similar with the doctor to see if there is some underlying reason for that much disc damage at your age.

There is nothing to be alarmed about, but it is unusual for anyone to have that many herniated discs, particularly at a relatively young age.

At least you have found the source of your pain and know it isn't all in your head. Now it will be important to find the right doctor who knows what to do with your issues.
