Im heat, or more accurately warmth. It seems to soothe me whereas cold numbs me so is a little more temporary. The memory foam mattress back pain link was one of the reasons I like the warmth, as that heat seems to soothe me as I sleep

I swear by thermacare heatwraps. They are great as they stay warm on my lower back for hours. I don't think they advise you to sleep in them, but I do and they help me sleep all night, rather than waking in pain. They are expensive though, but I feel they're worth it. You can get 4 for £5 at costco, although as you're spelling mummy with an o, I assume you're from the US!

Haha, yes! But we have a Costco! I go to a place called SAMs club. I heat my lower back, although, my pain is in my leg, lower right leg, in the back. I just hate this!!! If ice my back, my leg feels better. Go figure!!! Hang in there, and thanks for your reply!
Heat, I use a Sunbeam (Australia) Electric heat pad at home and a wheat bag which I heat in the microwave and has a velcro strap to hold it in place at work. I also have a heated throw for in the car which plugs into the cigarette lighter and I use this on my back for long car drives. Sometimes I need to use heat every morning until my back loosens up, then whenever it feels painful and tight. My workmates liken the smell of the wheat bag to freshly cooked biscuits hence the nickname bickiebak.
