Does anyone think prednisone works for leg pain caused by disc bulge & dring up disc? Has anyone tried it?
Hello

My Dr put me on an 8-day course of prednisone when my back and leg symptoms first started. It gave me a lot of energy, and did make me feel more flexible for a few days, but didn't really bring my pain level down enough to say that it worked for me. Oral steroids aren't meant for long term use, and just another conservative measure that has to be exhausted before or in conjunction with other conservative treatments.

I hope you get some relief soon. I certainly know how you feel.

Re: Steroids?

I recently had intravenous prednizone followed by 5 days orally. This was after a trip to emergency when a herniated disc at L5/S1 that has fragmented, rendered me imobile and in indescribable pain. I am waiting now to have a microdiscectomy. However...I think the predinzone has likley helped with the inflammation, as currently, I have little pain....mostly achiness and the irritating feeling of the numbness and weakness. I do think the prednizone will attack the inflammation of irritated nerve roots, etc. I don't know how long it lasts and it likely isn't as good as an ESI injection, but it is often a first course of treatment. That's what I can offer from my experience. Hope it will help you.
