Some people get almost instant relief, but many do not, so just be patient. Follow your surgeon's instructions, take short, frequent walks to keep the spinal nerves stretched out and avoid any bending or twisting at the waist, reaching up overhead or to the side, pushing, pulling and do not lift more pounds than you were told, usually the weight of a gallon of milk. Also, avoid sitting for more than 15-20 minutes at a time as sitting puts 30% more pressure on the discs than other positions.
Also keep in mind that recovery may take longer than the optimistic time table many surgeons tell their patients. If you have questions or need some support, many people on the board have had lumbar surgeries, so feel free to post any time.
If I can give any advice, listen to the drs and don't overdue it...have a greater chance of reinjuring the surgery...walking is you best friend...follow their timeline and when you start pt listen and don't overdue then either...think positive and you get better...best wishes and thoughts ate with you
