opinions please. 5 months post Op ACDF C4-5

I was happily improving but now I have muscle spasms in my upper back first rib area, per my massage therapist. My arms hurt from shoulder to elbows and my wrist hurt too. the pain is symmetrical. That concerns me that it is not from anything i may have done. I am also recuperating from TLIF L 5 S1 Nov 6, 2012 so I expect discomfort in that region, but this upper pain is keeping me awake when i am expected to be getting off muscle relaxers and my pain meds.
Pain meds I can do but not the robaxin. I have been on Lyrica prior to the surgeries and i hate to have to return to them. But...
I read this board all the time, and I value the opinions of those who have been there, done that.
Thanks
Agw

Sorry to hear you are having some problems with spasms after having felt like you were making progress. Did these just start or did you have them in the past?

It may be that since your lumbar fusion, you are carrying yourself differently, perhaps your structural alignment is different and your body is compensating by tightening up higher up in your spine.

The shoulder to elbow pain sounds like it is following a typical C5 dermatome pattern. Perhaps a nerve is still irritated from the surgery...inflammation still going on, perhaps?
