So I've just returned from my appt. with the Neurosurgeon. I have Level 5 annular tears in L3, 4 and 5. He said 3 disc fusion is the surgery option.
Asked him about any other options and he talked about Autologous Disc Stem Cell transplant. It's not covered by insurance, but we are not counting it out. He is going to get more info, see if Level 5 (4) tears would be candidates and then we'll discuss.
Anyone have 3 disc lumbar fusion to share info?
Anyone have Autologous Disc Stem Cell transplant?
I'm actually researching that now. I am a Professor in Education which gives me access to our online journal database. Looking at Spine Journal. Looks like animal trials have been promising and some human, but not sure if my condition (3 disc annular tears) would make me a candidate.
Thanks for responding, appreciate it!
One other thing i had disc biacuplasty done in 07 but I think it has to be on level 3 or less tear it was developed by Bayliss if you want to check that out. I still have to be careful but no cuts just cannulas heated up (water cooled on the outside) the disc, wore hard shell brace for 6 weeks and it was repaired. Cathy
