Question Morphine Sulfate IR 15mg question

I have several medical problems but my 2 severe pain issues are Osteonecrosis (mainly in my right leg) and back issues. I've had 2 back surgeries with an outcome of worse pain than before I had them. I recently have undergone a diagnostic nerve block in my back that so far isn't much improvement. I've been on Lortab for a couple years (most recently on Lortab 10) but a couple months ago was switched to Morphine Sulfate IR 15mg. I don't take them on a regular basis...only when the pain is too bad for me to bear. Generally I take an average of 1 a day. They are prescribed so that I can take every 6-8 hours. My question is this: If the pain resumes before the 6 hrs (which it often does) can I take another one sooner? I don't like taking medication, but I hate being in pain worse.

Wink Re: Morphine Sulfate IR 15mg question

Hi, if you are to take them on a regular basis then please do, I take 30 mg 3 times aday extended release and on top of more pills. Please do as the persciption says trust me you will feel better in the long run, and wanting to take one if the pain is worse will not do the job it is suposed to do . any how good luck to you and please do as your doc. say's. I hate taking meds too but I have no other choice. I had a 3 level lower lumber anterior posterior fusion and now have more pain then before the surg. Well let us know how you are doing, thats what we are all on here for is to talk to each other. as ever georgie 782.

Re: Morphine Sulfate IR 15mg question

Thanks georgie for your quick response. My pain management doctor says its okay for me not to take it on a regular basis, but I'm just having so much breakthrough pain and I'm not sure if taking another 15 mg immediate release is too much. I certainly don't want to overdose on it and since I'm not used to taking such high dose/highly addictive medications, I'm not sure if it's okay to take another pill an hour or 2 before I'm due for the next dose.
