Laminectomy Surgery

I know we can't state ant career information, but I had emergency back surgery on April 12th. My right leg was numb, swollen and had drop foot. No strength at all in leg. A bone fragment was pinching my sciatic nerve to the point it was hardened. The doctor said if I had waited I would have lost use of my leg permanently. I am scheduled to go back to work on May 28th. I go back to the doctor on the 23rd. My question is why is a adequate time off. I still have weakness in the leg, tingling, numbness which is the nerve damage which may be permanent. If I sit too long I hurt, if I stand to long I hurt I have no idea how I can do 8 hours a day. Is this a disability or could it be I'm really worried.
