Exclamation Miralax is NOT made from Antifreeze!!!!!

Antifreeze is Propylene glycol and is toxic.

Miralax is Polyethylene Glycol 3350 and is NOT toxic.

While the names sound similar to people who do not know their chemistry, let me assure you that these are completely different chemicals.

Miralax is NOT dangerous!! In fact, Miralax is unable to be absorbed by the body, it stays in the GI tract and so it is unable to have any sort of systemic effect on the body what so ever.

Anyone who has concerns about the difference between Propylene Glycol and Polyethylene Glycol can ask ANY pharmacist for confirmation of the information I've shared in this post.

Re: Miralax is NOT made from Antifreeze!!!!!

Thank you so much for addressing this. I have been a big fan of Miralax for years. I've had multiple surgeries thru the years and Miralax has always gotten me thru those tough times. I still do take a small dosage regularly to maintain my regularity. My GP and Oby-Gyn both had said I was fine to take it regularly. So that thread that was pinned always confused me and I'm sure it has others. So thanks for speaking out about it.

Re: Miralax is NOT made from Antifreeze!!!!!

The chemical names of the 2 products are very, very similar, <and easily confused>.

So that means then that we all need to be extra careful about how we use the information we find. When coming across a bit of information that might cause you to change the medication you take or the treatments you follow, its a good idea to look for a way to validate the information before you apply it in your own life. We all need to be very careful about accepting medical information from non-medical sources.

Sharing information is good, and supporting one another is awesome! But before you apply something you learned, try to validate the information.

Re: Miralax is NOT made from Antifreeze!!!!!

Thank you so much for addressing this. I was very upset with the misinformation in the previous one, and it was locked so I couldn't even respond. That's one of those things I call 'too bad to be true'. Like was said above, we need to look into all of these things ourselves and be careful. We can miss out on helpful medications and supplements too.
