It probably wouldn't kill you, but it's a bit heavy for the delicate skin of the eyelids. If you are willing to do vaseline, why not just use olive oil, or if you want something lighter, hazelnut oil or jojoba? None of those will hurt you they are certainly lighter than vaseline, which is made from petroleum.
