Arrow got any tips for curls???

I have naturally curly hair and I have NO idea how to tame it. I highlite my hair so its very dry, and yes, A LOT of frizz. I'm lost when it comes to products.. gels, mouse, hairsprays, conditioners, are all the same to me. Its just one big mess. Any tips or pointers??? I'm open to try anything!

Re: got any tips for curls???

Hey,
I also have really really curly hair...not kinky just curly. One tip that I would give you is NEVER BRUSH, never brush your hair, when i am in the shower after I rinse out the conditioner, I get all of the loose hair out with my fingers. And when I get out of the shower, I put my hair up in a towel for a couple of min (not to long, or it will get frizzy, and not so short where it will be to wet) then take it down, and WITH MY FINGERS I put a huge amount of mouse (I have long hair) in my hair, I put my head upsides down, and work the mouse in from the roots to the ends...I scrunch my hair as I do this...
After the mouse is in, I put some non-aerosal hairspray in, keeping my head down. Then I get a blow dryer, with a diffuser on it, and scrunch it with my head upside down until it is not sopping wet...
Then I let it air dry the rest of the way...it looks a little wet when it is dry, but at least it is controlable...

thx for the tips! You mentioned something about blow drying your hair using a diffuser??? I was just wondering how that works. It doesn't make your hair frizzy at all??? Or ruin your curls??

Re: got any tips for curls???

When you blowdry it with a diffuser, you turn your head upside down, and scrunch it with the blowdryer, do not dry it all the way, just enough to get some of the really wetness out...it will not ruin your curls, it will make them not be frizzy, if you put the mouse and the hair spray in..

Re: got any tips for curls???

I'm a white girl with really, super curly hair, and there sure is a dearth of products for us. The best one I've found is Paul Mitchell's "The Conditioner." I mix it with water and use it as a leave-in.

Other tips:

Get your ends trimmed at least every 2 months, or more. The longer you go without trimmin it, the more it will dry out and split and break. Mine mostly breaks. I mean, the hair just breaks. Like glass.

Dont use a "regular" bristle brush. Ever.

Don't blow dry if you have the option of air-drying.

Don't use any conditioners that claim to be "light" or to have "no buildup." As one hairdresser told me, "It's not possible to overcondtition curly hair."

I get tons of compliments on my hair, and I think the best thing I do for it is to always air-dry it. I do sometimes use a blow-drier with a diffuser when it's like 40-below, but usually even when it's that cold I just wrap my head up in a couple of scarves and go to work with it wet, or wash it the night before.
