ScoobyDoo - at the risk of sounding like a *preacher*, I'm going to say again that it is VERY damaging to your skin to go into the sun without a sunscreen. You may not notice it for years, but by then, the damage is done.
If you absolutely must go into the sun, then I would at the very least use a sunscreen that has a 15 SPF - and be sure that it screens UVA & UVB rays - one cause burning the other causes aging. You will still get some color, but at least you'll have some proetection, too.
