I'm just curious. And, how many of you use a tanning bed? I've never used one and was just wondering what kind of advice you'd have about it. Please, no lectures about how bad the sun or tanning beds are, I already know. Thanks a lot.

Hi Siren3:

I tan on a regular basis, usually starting in April, and continue through September. I tan for me ---it makes me feel better!! You won't get any lectures from me.

The most important thing to remember is to start slow. I have light-medium skin that burns easily and is hard to tan.

For my first 3 sessions, I only do 8 minutes, then up it to 10 for 3 more. After that, I am ready for the maximum of 15 minutes. I go to a place that had 3 levels of beds. I use a "2 star" bed, the medium level.

For me, the indoor tanning lotions do not help, so I don't use any thing.

This will definitely dry your skin, so make sure you moisturize when you are done.

I have been a "tanaholic" for over 15 yrs. I would start in May and go through September. I can't stand white legs in the summer. I have darker skin to begin with, so I can start at 15 minutes right off the bat.
The only thing I would warn you about is tanning your face. Don't let it get too dark, and the older you get the lines will show. I haven't tanned as much this year as a result of a line between my eyebrows. But then again, I just turned 42! (YUCK!)

I am 31 and have been going to tanning salons since I was 15. I tan from June to the end of August. I love to look tan. It gives me such confidence when I wear shorts and sundresses. I use the stand up 8 minute booth. My husband doesn't understand why I just do not lay out in the yard. It is totally different when you tan at the salon. You get an all even tan and no tanning lines(I go naked in the booth). Good luck and have fun with your new tan body.

I am really fair and I start tanning in March and go through Sept / Oct- just take it slow- start for 5-8 minutes and work your way up. There is a really good tanning lotion called Halo- it actually has an SPF4 in it to block UVB rays and I get a really good color from it. I just a foundation with an SPF 30 in it- so that my face doesn't look like leather when I am 50 LOL. I've been doing it for years and haven't had any problems- just dont Fry yourself!
