Post Bad haircut

I just needed to vent and maybe get some advice.

I got a horrible haircut this weekend. Before my hair was a little below my shoulders. It was very thick and sometimes a little wavy, I would straighten it. Straightened, it looked pretty nice, but I was getting a little tired with it and split ends needed cut off.

I went to my hairstylist, who I've been going to for 9 years. I asked her about maybe doing something to thin my hair out a little. She suggested layers near the bottom. I was fine with a little bit of layers toward the bottom and getting 2 inches cut off and tristed her that she would do a good job. She said that she's had a lot of luck with this cut and that it will look good on me.

Well, I got home and looked at it. I hated it. She went crazy with the layering. There is so much layering in the back. The shortest ones are about ear length, which is much shorter then I wanted. They are so haphazard, there is no symmetry to the left and right sides. I look like a cross between the jennifer anniston hairstyle of the 90's and an 80s rocker.

I've tried styling my hair, but haven't had much luck. It looks so bad if I try to straighten it. And since its freshly cut the layers all flip out and refuse to be staightened or curled. It even looks horrible in a ponytail. right now I have it clipped back.

I'm just so mad, this is not what I wanted. I really did like my hair before, and now I am going to have to wait for it to grow out. I wish I could go somewhere to get it fixed but the layers are so short that I'd have to get my hair chopped off to my ears, and I'd rather keep the length.

Any advice on what to do with the layers, how to style it.

Thanks

You simply must go back and complain to the stylist. She can't put your hair back the way it was, but she should offer some kind of free services to make up for the bad cut.

In the meantime, go get a bunch of different clips, bands, and other hair trinkets and experiment. Maybe try a curling iron or something to give body and disguise the layers. You might consider having a little bit trimmed from the bottom to bulk up the ends.

I understand how you feel. I've had some pretty bad cuts in the past. You just have to wait it out. That's the best thing about hair - nothing is permanent.

Thanks
It's nice to know I'm not alone. I guess its something everyone ends up going through. At least it will grow back. As my best friend said, Everyone's got to get a bad 80s haircut once in their life.

I guess I will be going out to the store to get some clips.

I'm going to give my hair a few days to calm down, my hair always looks better a week or so after a cut, and then talk to my hairstylist. I used to trust her, which is why I let her try this out, but I don't think I will go back to her after this fiasco.

Yeah I'd definetly give her a call and say that it didn't quite turn out the way you thought it would and you'd like to know if she could touch it up and then explain to her what the problem is. I'd tell her that you just want the layers evened out and not any shorter. If you wait too long and give her a call she probably is just going to brush you off and think, "Well if there's a problem why didn't she call right away?"

If you have been going to your hairdresser this long you should give her the opertunity to work it out with you by teaching you how to work with the new style call and ask her if she can give you some help with it...work with her don't shut her out because you can't work with it...not after that many years just my opinion
