Aussie wants straight hair! - Beauty & Cosmetics Message Board

I am trying to find either a chemical hair straightener that I can use myself, or a hairdresser that uses something other than perms to straighten hair (hasn't worked in the past) I have very wavy hair that I have to blow dry and then use a ceramic flattening iron on (also MANY products, serum,leave in conditioner,straightener etc!) I get it looking okay, then it is either humid or wet out and my hair just springs! My hairdresser has suggested some 'ion' treatment but says it will cost upward of $750. Does anyone know of anything at all that will give me at least a month of not having to torture my hair daily (even though it might also be damaging)
I am grateful for any suggestions!

Just two days ago I tried the Ogilvie Straightner. It is an at home kit. It is quite a pain and takes about an hour, so set aside some time. (It would be much easier if you had a friend help you) But the results are really worth the effort it takes! My hair is also very wavy. This treatment made my hair smooth, straight and shiny. Except for the back, which I couldn't do as well since I did it myself. But it still looks better than it did. Next time though, I am going to have a friend do the back for me.

The kit is only $10. I got it at Walgreen's, but I'm sure you can get it at any drugstore or discount store.

The results are supposed to last 3 months. You're only supposed to do the treatment every 3 months since it is a chemical straightener and damages.

Good Luck! Believe me, I spend waaaayyyy too much time fighting with my hair. And also have a ton of creams, serums, etc.

Thank you for your speedy response! There doesn't seem to be much in the way of hair straighteners here in Australia, but now I have the name of a product I can ask the chemist (druggist?) to order for me - Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I am so tired of all the time it takes to even make my hair halfway to acceptable. Glad you had such great results- seems like the friend idea is a good idea! The back is always the hardest to do isn't it?!

You could probably even order it online somewhere. If you put in a search for Ogilvie Hair Straightener.
