Talking my take on 'mineral' makeup

Hi! First time posting here and saw that some of you mentioned mineral make up and you had some questions about them.

I'm in my mid-40's, have combo skin, and started breaking out on my chin and temple area (menopause related I believe). Liquid foundation (either from local drug store or expensive cosmetic counter in dept. stores) left my skin feeling heavy, dirty and started creating lines I didn't have . Plus, it wouldn't last all day, if I was going out at night, I would wash my face and reapply. I tried some of the low cost power foundations and found that I liked them better, but still had the breakouts.

I finally gave in to one of the infomercials on tv for a mineral foundation (bare escentuals) and I have to say I love it. Yes, they are expensive, but you use such a tiny amount that it seems to last forever. The blush doubles as eye make up and lipstick (with gloss over it) and I can wear this make up all day without getting that urge to scrub my face.

My acne cleared up and I have received so many compliments on my complexion. My mother (and we all know moms never lie to us) liked the way I looked so much that she had me order her some also.

It also cut my make up applying time in half. You do just what the commerical tells you to do, buff it on and go.

The one extra step I take is to quickly wipe my face with sponge in the areas where my pores look a little too big to even out the coverage.

The other day I did use my old liquid foundation just to see if there was a difference and I couldn't stand the way it felt and I have to admit..... my complexion certainly didn't look like it had been looking.

Hope this helps some of you!

seabell

I too have used the mineral makeup and like to use it over top of a light application of foundation. I can't use it on it's own because it does not provide enough coverage for me (broken capillaries on cheeks) and if too much is applied, it shows up any flakiness on my skin (esp. around nose area). But, I'm still looking for that perfect coverage foundation that can hide those imperfections and not settle into pores and fine lines. If only that were possible!

I didn't have much success with the mineral foundation. For one thing my face felt really, really dry from it, even though I put just a tiny, tiny bit on and I had moisturizer on underneath... my skin actually *hurt* it was so drying on me! Also, although from a distance or if I just slightly blurred my vision it looked really good, when I got close up it actually emphasized my pores and fine lines... and yet it still didn't seem to provide any real coverage for me. I tried the Bare Escentials minerals, I haven't tried any others so I don't know if they would be better.

Thanks for the input. I have been thinking about trying some of these.I have dry skin and was concerned about making the fine lines show even more.

I've used many of the mineral make-ups...Jane iredale, bare esentuals, and aromaleigh. I really like all of them. It doesn't even look like I'm wearing make-up. Jane Iredale is great but expensive, Bare esentuals is great and the price is moderate. Aromaleigh is the cheapest and also excellent brand.

The tricky part is getting the color right (the colors look much different on the computer) I suggest ordering samples first. I highly reccomend mineral makeup to anyone. It's good for your skin and doesn't have all those crappy ingredients that regular makeup has in them...even when the claim to be good for your skin, often they are not.

I have dry skin as well. I apply Jojoba oil before the makeup which is easily applied over the oil. It actually diminishes the fine lines and makes my skin look healthy. Happy makeup shopping ladies
