help with skin on lower cheeks - Beauty & Cosmetics Message Board

Has anyone had any results in dealing with 50 year-old facial skin? In particular, the area right below the cheeks, close to the bottom of the nose and next to the mouth. This area looks a bit mottled with big pores and a bit of dark discoloration. I use Retin-A for acne and tea tree oil for cleansing but this seems to be a problem area. I would have to stop using Retin A on this area for a week before using any other exfoilating producs. Would a couple of sessions of microdermabrasion help?

You may want to get a consult for the microdermabrasion. That's a technique I wouldn't particularly listen to anyone other than a licensed person.

Queen Helene's Mint Julip Mask has helped my pores and acne. I had some discoloration on my upper lip from a burn and aromaleigh's Free Radical Serum helped lighten it. I've only used it 1 1/2 days and it's all but gone. Don't know what your discoloration is from. If it is a skin condition, you may have to see a doctor.

Adele....there is a product by Estee Lauder called Idealist. There is an exfoliater and the lotion you apply afterwards. The exfoliater is new. I haven't tried it yet but I tested it at the counter. It was phenomenal. I am already using the lotion and that feels awesome. Both products help reduce pores. If you can get to a counter ask them for samples of it and try it at home. You probably won't see results right away w/samples but you can see how your skin will feel afterwards. Also...Estee Lauder guarantees their products if they do not work for you or if you have any problems with it. Both the exfoliater and the lotion sell for $45 each.-Roni

Hey Roni, how long have you been using Idealist for? Ive been wanting to use this myself, it claims it does the same job as Retin-A but without any of the nasty redness and irritation. Have you noticed really good, exceptional results? Or is it just another, regular moisturiser?

Crazy cat....I have been using it for almost a year now. I have noticed my pores aren't as big as they used to be but they are still there. My skin feels so soft too. I was using Fruition and changed to this stuff. Fruition worked well too but didn't leave my skin feeling so smooth. I want to buy the exfoliater now but I have to wait because I spent too much money at the Pottery Barn for my daughters' bedroom stuff. I have had the opportunity to try different treatment lines because I worked in the industry and I have to say I am really impressed with Idealist. Estee Lauder did well with this one.-Roni
