Best way to use coconut oil on hair? - Beauty & Cosmetics Message Board

I recently got a jar of coconut oil (by Tropical Traditions). When it was shipped to me though the oil turned into a white coconut cream substance. I know this is normal, that the oil hardens (looks like lard or Crisco). I mainly want to use the coconut on my hair as a moisturizer since my hair is naturally curly and dry because I color my hair. How would you all recommend I use this oil? Do I need to liquify the coconut first or just plop some of in my hair and work it through?? I am just confused on the best way to do this. Also does anyone have any other ideas for the use of coconut oil as far as beauty goes? It is a pretty big jar of coconut oil (or coconut lard haha).

I use that kind of coconut oil. Just put alittle in your hand and it will melt in seconds. I use it on my face occasionally and hands. Its not oily or greasy and just melts into your skin. Its good to eat too. Go back to the site and read about it, its good stuff. I use the expeller coconut oil to cook in. Its very healthy.

Once the oil is in your hands, it will warm up and liquify. Just put it in your hair or on your body as a moisturizer. I order from Tropical Traditions also and I use it in everything...in my hair, on my body, as a cooking oil.

I have a jar of coconut oil and it says on the label to 'melt' the hard oil (by putting jar in bowl of hot water) and applying the liquid to hair, leaving it on for 1/2 hour and then rinsing it off. I've never tried it, I just noticed that it gave instructions on the jar.
