Powder foundation vs. regular powder

I find that powder foundation looks so much better on me than liquid. What's the difference between these and regular face powder? Anyone find that they work about the same? I'm thinking about saving some money and just buying some regular pressed powder next time but not sure if it will cover as well.

Re: Powder foundation vs. regular powder

I think if it's labeled "foundation" it's supposed to stay on your face. Regular powder doesn't stay very long. Since I have dry-ish skin I can't use powder foundation, but I use a little face powder here and there for shiny spots.

Re: Powder foundation vs. regular powder

If you're refering to products like Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals, or other "mineral" based foundations, they really aren't powders per se but finely ground minerals. Believe me, they do have great staying power. Just drop some on your clothing or your carpet and you'll find out!! Regular powder just doesn't have anywhere near the staying power that the mineral foundations do. Powder is meant to "set" your foundation, not act as foundation. Mineral foundations even out your color and cover any problems you have making them great coverage foundations. I also use my mineral concealer (BE Bisque) on breakouts to help get rid of them as well as cover them. I know the BE foundation also has a SPF of 15.

Hope this helps!

Re: Powder foundation vs. regular powder

Pressed powder foundations give you more coverage than a regular pressed powder. I have carried a powder foundation instead of pressed powder for touchups because I have acne & it covers it better.

I have found that CG TruBlend pressed powder covers as well as a powder foundations I have tried - I have had trouble finding a powder foundation that is pale enough for me & TruBlend is light enough for me. They do have TruBlend powder foundation now also, but I haven't tried that.
