Considering selftanning lotions... which is the best?

hi im a guy and i am considering applying selftanning lotions on my legs... we never get sunny weather here so the chance of me getting a natural tan is really small before winter and the tanbeds work way slower and more pricey than the lotions, dont they?

now, my question is... what tanning lotions are the best to use? brandwise, resultswise... has anyone tried them and what was your experience with that? all those big names like l'oreal, garnier etc, are those good or is it better to look for unfamiliar names?

i hope someone can answer my question. thanks!

also, i have a few red marks on my thighs, will the lotion cover that too and even out the skin?
thanks

The jergens natural glow is awesome. After a week you see full results. There is no streaking and since it's gradual it's natural. It should help fade some blemishes.
Good Luck,
Nodi

Re: Considering selftanning lotions... which is the best?

I haven't tried too many different ones. I've only tried the cheap ones like Banana Boat and Coppertone. It turns out okay if you don't use too much. If you put too many layers on it will be a bit too orange.

Also, orange palms are a beeyotch! I hate it because it stains my nails and everything, ugh! Make sure you wash your hands REALLY well with soap as soon as you're done.
Because I apply the lotions all over my body, it takes a while. So I take breaks and wash my hands a few times inbetween applications because it stains hands wayyy too quickly.

So if you're looking for something cheap that will work at least a little bit, you could try one of the cheaper ones. They're between $7-12 I think, and they don't look too terrible. I haven't tried the Jergens Natural Glow, but it looks good. You could just try that.

About the red marks... tanning lotions actually do work really well for that. I have a bunch of scars on my legs from like years ago and it covers them up. So the lotions will do a good job at concealing those.

Re: Considering selftanning lotions... which is the best?

If you want gradual, go with Coppertone Gradual Tan. This works a bit faster than Jergens and has much less odor (plus it's easier to find!). If you're looking for something darker and don't want to wait, I like Loreal Sublime Lotion (nice color but a bit slow to dry) and Coppertone Endless Summer Bronzing Foam. The foam dries very quickly (a definite plus) and there is no awful odor. Just be careful with foam as the quick drying time means you have to get application correct so be sure to use both horizontal and vertical motions when applying (just vertical and you may get streaks) and be sure to wash your hands very frequently. This prodcut starts to develop in 30 minutes so you can see if you have missed spots at that point and then correct, which is a bit positive. I just used the med to dark last night and it's not too dark at all (which is good for me, as i'm pretty fair and was afraid I might look fake) so if you want very dark, you might need two coats.

Re: Considering selftanning lotions... which is the best?

Does anyone know a good self tanner that has a lot of color that is still not orangey? I have the Neutrogena Instant Bronze Foam and don't recommend it! It smells so bad and gets on my clothes even after it dries.. it just rubs off!! It looks very dark at first b/c of the instant bronzer, and kind of orange/scary. However, I leave it on all night while I sleep.. and yes it is on in the morning.. but then I wash my face with my usual facewash and it is ALL gone!! Anyone knows one that STAYS that is a dark color?
