Laser hair removal? Upper lip hair removal? - Beauty & Cosmetics Message Board

Has anyone had this done? If so, I have some questions:

1. About how expensive is it?
2. Do you have to let the hair grow out to a certain length first?
3. How much pain is involved?
4. Any other tips?

If I do not do laser hair removal is there any other way to remove the hair on the upper lip without having to let it grow out for a few days? Mine grows kind of fast and without taking care of it myself every morning I would not be willing to go out in public. I think waxing would be the easiest and least expensive, but I know I would have to let it grow out. With a teaching job, three kids and being involved in other activities this would be next to impossible.

I just had this done a few weeks ago on my underarms. The clinic was giving lessons to Drs who wanted to learn to use the laser, I happen to know the office manager so got to come in..got it for free. They usually charge $75 per area. It kills the hair thats in its active growth stage so I will need 2-3 treatments. So that will be $75 per underarm x 2-3 treatments. Im getting a little bit of new growth now, but not much, Im going to call to see when I need to come in for my next treatment.

The Dr used a new type of cold laser. I had no redness or irritation afterwards but it did hurt with each zap!!! Like a flashfire that only lasted seconds. You can ask for a numbing cream to be applied 1/2 hour before hand. You do need to shave before the treatment, even with that there was a strong smell of hair burning.

My sister had her upper lip and chin done. I will ask her tomorrow how she likes it so far. I do know she had alot of pain with it,, I think that area might be more sensitive plus she has a low tolerance to pain. But I know she has had no problems since the laser treatment.

1. About how expensive is it? Yeah, most places charge about $75/session. Make sure you only go to see a doctor because some spas have lasers that are really crappy, only doctors can get the really good lasers. In my opinion Candela makes the best lasers.
2. Do you have to let the hair grow out to a certain length first? Nope, you shave it right before each session and you are not supposed to wax or tweeze the hairs inbetween sessions.
3. How much pain is involved? Its not that bad. Its over pretty quick and numbing cream is available to you if you want.
4. Any other tips? Waxing is much more painful in my opinion, and you have to let it grow out, AND its not permanent!

I talked to my sister, she hasn't had any new hairs grow in yet. Not sure if the laser stunned the growth phase or if it takes this long for the new growth cycle. But so far we are both very pleased with the results. Much better than shaving or tweezing.
