Bleaching my hair didn't go quite as planned..

I don't know if anyone recalls my recent topic here, inquiring about bleaching my hair, but I have an update, and I'm seeking a bit more advice.

I went through with the bleaching last night. I left the bleach and the plastic bag on my head for over an hour. My roots and a few random pieces of hair that had turned back to the natural color were the only parts that reacted to the bleach. The areas that still retained the color of the dye were completely unaffected by the bleach.

So now, I have bleached roots and light green everything else. I have absolutely no idea why the bleach did not remove the dye. The dye I used was semi-permenant, and I applied it about six weeks ago - before I bleached this time, the dye had faded from it's original shade of dark blue to a mint green. I assumed that the dye had worn out enough to be bleached out.

So, here's my new question...if bleach won't take dye out, what will? I was really hoping for light blonde hair, and I ended up with streaky green and yellow hair instead. I thought bleach could remove any hair color, natural or not. Any ideas as to why the bleach left the remaining dye untouched? What else can I do to take the green tint out?

I would sincerely appreciate absolutely any help at all in this matter.

You might want to go to a salon and see what they say. Your hair is probably damaged after using the bleach. They might have suggestions on how to get your hair blonde.

I know that red dye does negate green in hair, you might wanna try that, but with your hair being a mint colour, the best bet would be a salon.

The bleach that they have at salons is much stronger than the bleach that is commerically available. It might be that the bleach you used just wasn't a high enough volume to strip your hair.

I did this once too. Ugh. Mine turned orange and banana yellow.

The best thing to do is to go to a salon and get them to fix it. You need a proper color correction. I wouldn't put any more bleach on it yourself as you'll surely badly damage your hair (and then a salon won't be able to fix it).

DEFINITELY go to the salon! If you don't want to go.. the only thing that I would suggest is to dye it dark brown.. to just get it all one color.. then try it again later on, but that would probably end up being damaging since I don't think you would want to keep the darker color for long. Lots of salons don't charge too much and can do a good job and fix it.. it'll be worth it!

Hate to say it, but I told ya so. :~) Ah! The worst thing to hear now, I know. To be honest with you, I wouldn't go to a salon at this point. Yeah, they might be able to help you, but I'd say the most effective way of getting your hair back to a "normal" state is to dye it darker and get it bleached at a salon later when your hair heals up. Right now, the cuticle of your hair is split right open and if you bleach it again (at a salon or on your own accord) you risk some serious frying. My hair stylist, ironically, recently experienced this when she double-bleached. Her hair is absolutely fried at the ends and flat irons, serums, and potions don't do anything to conceal it, and now she's just trying to grow it out so she can cut it off. Good luck... !!
