Monistat as Primer

I just researched this topic a whole lot, first because I really wanted to know what a primer is in the first place, how to apply it, and how much they cost.

I noticed that there are only a handful (if that many) primer brands out there and they seem extremely expensive. Most are only found online.
The one people talk about the most is Smashbox and a tube or whatever is almost $40. I personally would never spend that much on a single beauty product. That's insane.
So I researched Monistat instead since it's apparently very similar. A lot of people say it works as a primer, and than there are others who think it's "digusting" or "not good for skin." If it was designed for skin, why would it be so bad for the face? I don't get it.

I recently ordered a free sample of Monistat and tried it this morning. I'm not sure whether or not it makes that much difference since I didn't use a whole lot. I only applied a couple of small drops on the redness area around my nose and cheeks (large pores).
It appears to make my pores less visible, but I'm not 100% certain on that since I've only tried it once so far.

So I was wondering, is Monistat actually safe to use on the face? Will it clog pores like some people say? The last thing I want is more clogged pores since I try really hard to keep my face clean and I exfoliate/moisturize religiously.
I'm also wondering whether it actually makes a difference as far as pores go? Does it make them less noticable?
I hate the ones I have on my cheeks since they're kinda large, and applying certain types of make up just makes them more obvious.

I'm debating on whether or not I wanna go out and buy Monistat since I don't want it to ruin my skin... and I also don't want to buy something that won't make a difference.

Re: Monistat as Primer

women are using the monistat chafing relief gel as a primer, and not the yeast infection cream. thought i should specify that.

i have never used this stuff, but i have heard of many women using it successfully as a makeup primer. whether or not it'll clog pores... i dont know. my guess would be yes, since its a silicone gel, but i think it depends on the type of skin you have. i personally would not use it on my face only because i have very oily, acne-prone skin. if i wasnt so acne-prone, i would probably try it.

i am going to buy it, though, to use on my feet when i wear shoes that rub on my toes. it heard that its good for helping to prevent blisters.

Re: Monistat as Primer

Thanks!
I get clogged pores easily... hate that so much... that's why I exfoliate a lot. I don't have issues with breakouts though. Most products I've tried have worked just fine. I can't really think of anything that made me break out, and I have relatively normal skin, more on the dry side.
So far the small amount I put on this morning didn't cause any problems at all, so I guess I'll keep using the free sample I ordered till it's gone, than I'll decide whether or not I want to buy it and continue using it as a primer.

Re: Monistat as Primer

I love Monistat Chafing Relief gel as a primer! I've been using it for months and am very prone to getting clogged pores - but this product has not effected my skin in a bad way at all! For me I've found that I have to use a little more of it than I first thought - it took a few times to figure out how much I needed to help camoflage my enlarged pores around my nose. I think this works as good if not better than most other primers out there.

Here's another way that I use it.... You know how the heel of your feet slap against your sandles? I hate that sound... So I put a little bit of the chafing relief gel on the heels of my feet and problem solved!! Just PLEASE don't put it on the entire bottom of your feet or you'll slide right out of your shoes

Hope this helps.

Re: Monistat as Primer

Awesome, thanks!
I'll definitely use this stuff then. I'll probably have to use more also since I have annoying large pores around the same area as well. Even though I put on only a little bit this morning it seems to have made a difference.
I guess I'm gonna have to start using this stuff.
