washing hair?

my stylist asked if i wash my hair every other day or day after, and i wash my hair everyday. i was just wondering if others wait a day or two before washing or if it causes damage to wash your hair everyday? I have to at least wet my hair if i dont wash it but it feels gross and i feel like i have to wash it everyday. I got straightening and highlights and wondering if that would wash the color out etc if i wash my hair everyday? the beautition said my hair is very strong.

Re: washing hair?

According to a lot of stylists, you're not supposed to wash your hair very often (unless you have very oily hair). Every other day or every 3 days is just fine since that keeps your hair healthier and stronger.
Washing it everyday will definitely cause more damage especially if you blowdry and style it every time.

As far as washing out the color goes... it probably does affect the color. It depends on the highlights I guess, and how your hair handles that. My hair doesn't hold onto color very well at all, so frequent washing definitely fades out the color very quickly.
I would personally suggest that you don't wash your hair every single day unless it's very oily. You'll be fine just washing it every few days. It's up to you I guess... Just make sure to take care of it and protect it from heat and whatnot.

Re: washing hair?

My roommate washes her hair EVERY day and always blow dries and flat irons every day as well. Her hair has never been colored though.. but her hair is very healthy. If I straighten mine, I'll skip a day, but when I don't straighten it, I usually wash it every day. I think you just have to see what works for your hair. If you hair is oily, it can handle more washing a lot more than somebody with dry hair. I had damaged hair about 1/2 a year ago and could go probably like a week and my hair wouldn't even feel oily at all.

With the highlights, using some shampoos can fade the color or make it brassy. Salons suggest using products made for color treated/highlighted hair. They make lavender colored shampoos that are good for keeping blonde highlights from going brassy. If yours fade, you can try some of those out, but if they don't, then you are just lucky!

If you are concerned and notice any damage in your hair, they make hair powders that absorb any greasy oily at the roots so you can skip a shampoo without feeling gross. However, if your hair looks good and is healthy, then you might as well keep doing as you do! If you have strong hair, you must be doing it all right for yourself !

Re: washing hair?

I wash my hair once every week. I have very healthy hair. It's long and very curly. I talked to my hair dresser and she said it was ok to do this It's not like I am going to the gym and getting nasty. So it works for me. Kc
