Hair color and skin tone

hi everyone...

What is a good hair color for a pinkish... slightly ruddy skin tone? I want to tone down the red in my skin-- since I'm thinking of coloring my hair (want a change) I was hoping for some advice. My natural color is light brown.

TIA

Re: Hair color and skin tone

This isn't probably what advise you were looking for but pretty much, nature gives you the best hair color to match your skin color and coloring...although everyone does it...usually isn't as flattering as your natural color. I don't think that we see ourselves as others do...like for instance, my sister is convinced that she looks a million time better as a blonde but everyone else in the family (talking behind her back...hehe!) thinks it looks terrible on her and her natural color is GREAT!!!!!(What does she see in the mirror?) Another thing to do to tone down ruddy skin is your foundation and makeup in general. Although it's probably not as popular as it once used to be, that color me beautiful concept is dead on! It's just kinda hard for us to judge our own coloring for some weird reason. I am very golden and the colors for winter and summer look pathetic on me! I haven't really determined if I'm Spring or Fall but definitely the warm colors are best but I tend to look better in the dark side of colors and I avoid light patels for me....so most likely I'm Fall. That might be fun to look into. I guess my point is it may not me your hair that's the problem!

Cool skintones, with a pink underbase, should wear cooler hair colors and warmer skintones, with a peach underbase, should wear warmer hair colors. Your stylist should be able to direct you to warm vs cool hair colors. Don't know what your underbase is? Clap your hands together a few times, and look at the insides of them. If they are pink, you're cool. If they are peach, you're warm. This works for all skin colors. Can't tell if it's pink or peach? Compare your hands to a few other friends hands. You can all figure it out.

Re: Hair color and skin tone

Just add some cool highlights, and it will likely tone down the pink in your face and give you an updated look.

A really platinum blonde (think Gwen Stephani or Marilyn Monroe) really pulls the color out of the complexion - and that may be why some people look so bad as blondes. I don't necessarily go with the "Nature gives you the color you should have" theory, because many of us had beautiful blonde hair when we were children, that darkened ultimately to medium brown. I tell people to look at their kindergarten pictures and aim for that!

That said, a woman I know won a radio contest for a makeover: She was a naturally "dirty blonde", invisible eyebrows, lashes, Scandinavian skin tone. The stylist gave her a light brown with reddish-gold warmth, that has absolutely been stunning. I would never have picked it in a million years!

Good luck and let us know what you choose!

Re: Hair color and skin tone

I agree with all the answers about cool colors. Just don't get anything too golden, since these look best with a golden complexion. The cool colors will go well with your skin. You can get anything from a very light ash brown to a cool platnium blonde or anything in between if you go with highlights, and the same for coloring it all, but doing anything too drastic can be damaging if you do it too fast.

Benefit Cosmetics sells a product called Bluff Dust (or something like that) that is a yellowish loose powder that you dust on to reduce the pink/redness in skin. If you are looking to tone down the pinkness you may want to try out this stuff too. You can probably dust it on over any other makeup. I tried it out once in Sephora and it seemed pretty good.
