french manicure with acrylic nails - Beauty & Cosmetics Message Board

I got my nails done just this past Friday and already (Sunday) they are starting to chip down by my cuticles. Is this normal?! I used to have acrylic nails (but no french) about 10 years ago and I don't remember them doing this. I called the salon back and they nail techs are out of town for the next few days. Should I insist that I get my money back?

That is definitely not normal. After a week I would say it's normal to have a little chipping, but certainly not after just two days.I have acrylic nails with the french maincure, but I get gel over it , which helps tremendously. It costs five dollars more, but it's well worth it. My manicure lasts me a full two weeks. I really doubt they'll give you your money back, but they may offer to redo them.I would show the owner of the shop as soon as you can get there. If they won't accommodate you, I would find a new salon.

Mine also last two to two and a half weeks before I notice I need them filled. Like the PP, I get the $5 gel applied and it does help. There is a big difference from one nail salon to another. I would either ask for my money back or ask them to re-do them. If you are not satisfied, shop around. I have also found that it is difficult to find a good salon. You also just might want to consider having a different tech do them. At my salon I always request one of the same two people (the owner or his wife). They are fantasic.

Mine always last longer too.. that is normal to get the chipping at the bottom, but usually it happens later on! I would say to go to a different salon next time. The one I go to files the bottom part (with that electric file thing) and smooths it out a lot and it usually is at LEAST a week and a half and it's pretty minor. I can go about 3 weeks with the same set of nails. I do get solar nails though and solar has always come out better on me than the acrylics. The place I go to only costs a little bit more for the solar.

One time I did my nails myself with acrylic mix.. it was a kit I bought at the grocery store. It was only $8 and actually came out decent, but the bottom did start chipping VERY quickly, so I would try to go somewhere nicer.. seems like I didn't do the best job on them and I think it would work better if I had all the professional supplies. Plus it was my first time doing them with the powder and acrylic liquid.

Do you get the airbrush french? Im surprised salon's still do that since the white tips came out. The airbrush chips off in 1-2 days! I love gel nails........i find they last longer and i was having problems with the acrylics. Some of the products they use were burning mu cuticle's. I would either try the white tips..........or gel nails.
