Smile Laser Hair Removal, anyone???

Hi, guys. Well, I have been thinking about getting laser hair removal done on my legs and underarms and upperlip for quite some time now but I was wondering if there was a certain age requirement that a person needs to meet?? I am 16 years old. Also, how much money does this generally cost w/o insurance? If anyone knows then an answer would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you have to be 18 to great treatment done. Cost varies. Some places offer lower rates than others. Make sure you find a good technician. A good technician will tell you all of the risks involved. She will also tell you that if the heat doesn't go away within a few seconds then you need to tell her so she can lower the heat. A lot of women get burned because they don't speak up if it burns.

Re: Laser Hair Removal, anyone???

ok i have lasered EVERYTHING.

1. i started at 16-17.
2. do not go near your face with the laser. for men, it is ok, for women in over 50% of cases, hair growth is stimulated if done on the face. there is NO WAY to determine if you will be a lucky one or not. if you go to a responsible technician as opposed to one who wants your $, they will not do your face.
3. legs cost 600-700 (for both) at every reputible place i've been. i've heard some places say $300, but if there is such a big gap i don't how good the cheaper one is.
4. the best treatment will be done every 6 weeks. you are not supposed to go in the sun 1 month prior and up to 1 month after your treatment. you will need anywhere from 4-8 treatments.
5. laser is not 100% effective, in that MOST (like 85%) people will experience between 10-30% regrowth. regrowth will have to be electrolysised to be permanently gone.
6. if it is not painful, the treatment won't be effective. however, the pp was right in sayig you can get burned if its too hot. a technician should do a skin patch test before your first appt to determine which setting is right for you. they will test an area and see how your skin reacts.
. there are numbing creams to use, but recently there have been some deaths linked to the creams (although the creams were improperly used). i use the cream (i am currently having my re-growth electrolysised) only for my bikini area (with laser and elect.) the cream is expensive and annoying to use and may cause death it appears, so the best to do would be to grin and bear it. some areas (like the ankles) are more painful than fatty areas of the leg, but the pain is NOTHING compared to your 'cookie' (i have the whoe thing lasered).
7.underarms cost approx 200 (for both)
8. insurance usually does not pay for any of this as it is cosmetic

Re: Laser Hair Removal, anyone???

Jozi, how did the laser treatment work out for you then? do you recommend it? i have olive skin and black hair. it's coarse on my legs and underarms. i heard that type of hair has been most effective in laser treatment. i'm still not sure how i would be able to do this though b/c neither of my parents support this... but thats b/c i havent showed then my legs yet.... i havent shaved for like 5 months now and they are soooo hairy lol they look like mans legs. no joke, its gross and it would be so nice to never have to shave again b/c hair immendiately starts to grow back after just a day or so and its really stubbly and coarse. similiar to a man's stubble, god i swear i feel like sucha man sometimes

Re: Laser Hair Removal, anyone???

Coarse black hair is very good for laser treatments, but olive skin is not optimal. There are new lasers out that work on olive to darker skins, but you must ask before you put down that kind of money. Some lasers could do damage to your skin, so be careful.
