New to mineral makeup...application tips needed

Hi all,

My box of Jane Iredale mineral makeup arrived today. I bought the pressed powder(for more of a matte finish for summer), loose powder, circle /delete concealer, D20 spritz & all necessary brushes. Jane's online instructions are vague to say the least. Ok, after my sunscreen, now what? Put concealer on? When appling pressed powder, where exactly do I start on my face and what motions am I to use....Jane says downward strokes(doesn't seem natural), but I hear swirling, buffing.......I am very confused. I realize it will take practice, but what's the best way to apply? Thank-you!! Tips & secrets please.

Re: New to mineral makeup...application tips needed

I have Bare Minerals, but I'd imagine that application is similar! What I do when applying the powder foundation is I get some on my kabuki brush, swirl it in the cap to get it spread out evenly over the brush, and tap it to get the excess off. Then I apply it mostly in swirly motions on my face. I have to apply it very gently around the eyes of course so it's kind of hard to do the swirl motion but I try my best. I usually have to dip the brush in powder about 3 times, but some people need it only once and some need more.. it varies. I usually start with one cheek, then the other cheek, and then my forehead area. I kind of split it into thirds, but it's up to you which way you think is best. I prefer to blend it outwards because I don't need as much coverage around the outer edge of my face.

With the concealer, you might want to experiment. I just use my concealer brush with my foundation powder or I put on a regular concealer before putting on the powder. You can test out both ways and see which works best for you. It definitely is something you have to experiment with because it works differently for everybody.. but using the correct brushes really does make a big difference! So I usually do concealer, powder, any extra concealer if there are spots not covered still (I do a light dusting over powder over it to set it), then I put on my blush and/or bronzer. During the day when my face gets any shine, I use my Mineral Veil to soak up any shine and give me that flawless look again.

Good luck!!

Re: New to mineral makeup...application tips needed

HI,

I've tried the Bare Minerals and a couple of other brands......but they ar just too messy as far as I am concerned. I now use a mineral makeup called
Coloure Science which comes in a tube with brush attached. (You can get refills for the tube). No mess....just brush it on in a circular motion. I use a lighter color for around the eyes and then another color for all over. It's a little pricier, I think but worth the money and so much less messy!!! Its not in stores but if you ****** it, u can find out where to buy it in your area.

Jeanne

Re: New to mineral makeup...application tips needed

Some of my friends have also complained about the Bare Minerals being messy. They said what they did to help with this, was instead of completely peeling off the sticker inside of the loose powder (that covers the holes that let the product come through), they only partially removed it. Funny thing is I had to remove mine ALL the way and have to tip it over to get it to come out. Mine never gets too much product! I guess because I keep mine at home, they don't move around much. I take them with me places every now and then in a makeup bag but I guess it keeps it pretty stilL!
