the person who dyes my lashes, uses a wet sponge to remove the dye afterwards. she swipes the sponge inside my eye to remove excess. this is not a new sponge. she resues them after clearning them. When I questioned her, she stated she cleans it w/ clorox, so not to worry. This bothers me. I don't see how the bacteria is removed from deep inside the sponge, even w/ clorox. And what is to keep the clorox from deteoriating the sponge?

Maybe you could ask your doctor if this is sanitary? If they say no, then I would just look for another beautician. Better that than worrying about it all the time... good luck!

Clorox? I would be more worried about that than the bacteria and germs.
How safe can clorox be for your eyes? Not very.

I've had my eyelashes dyed before and nothing like that has ever happened! I'm not sure what's worse - the re-used sponge (pink eye!!!!) or the clorox bleach. It sounds really unhygenic. There is no way I'd let someone put that sponge in my eye! And why is the dye even IN your eye? That's just sloppy! I've never once got dye IN my eye (ON the eye or AROUND it ... but not IN it). Her technique sounds really sloppy and the used/cloroxed sponge is really dodgy. She's putting something in your eye with that sponge - either germs/bacteria or bleach. I wouldn't want either in my eyes! Yuck. I'd find a new place.

Pelican -

I would definitely quit using the spa you're using!!! I would call around to a dermatologist and find one where the skin care specialist does eyelash tinting. To even RE-USE a sponge is not sanitary, and as a surgical nurse myself, I cringe to think what OSHA would do to that salon. I have my lashes tinited and it's always around the same price. The plastic surgeons offices do them around here.

I would not be so worried about the bacteria as any number of VIRUSES she could spread to your eye - ie: HERPES - which would be permanent. To even think of using chlorox as a cleaner for a sponge is ludacris. Sponges are so cheap! Since we're talking of a mucous membrane of the body - you have to make sure they are using brand new applicators at all times.

Quit using her and find a reputable spa with certified aestheticians on board!!!
