Question about skin care brands - Beauty & Cosmetics Message Board

Hi,

I'd like to know if it's better to use all your skin care products from the same brand or can you use a cleanser from one brand, a moisturizer from another brand and exfoliator from another? Do the products work better if they are all from the same company? I find that there are companies that have amazing moisturizers (Estée Lauder is a good example) but not so great cleansers and toners.

I hear different things on this ALL the time. From what I understand, certain sets are meant to work well when used together and you may not get as much results when mixing products (like Proactiv). Other things, I think are fine to mix. I know if I don't use my Clean & Clear moisturizer, I will break out... so I stick with this but I switch up my cleanser every now and then. Since my skin is acne prone, most brands with acne products (for a reasonable price) don't have eye creams, so I buy these in a different brand. I don't see anything wrong with doing this.

I've tried SOME products that seemed to not work with my makeup. The moisturizer would seem to roll off as I applied my foundation. It was strange, but it didn't happen when I switched back to my usual moisturizer. Just try and see what works for you!

Skin care products do not necessarily need to be used together unless the product line is for a specific problem such as acne, antiaging or pigmentation. If you are looking for a regular skin care line for a daily routine, you can mix and match as much as you want. I also usually find that I will love a product from a certain brand and buy another product in the hope that I will be equally pleased. Usually I am dissapointed. If you find a brand you really love you can try to stick with it, but if you still haven't explore!!!

Most skin care companies tell you to use the whole line to get a better result, well of course they want you to buy all of it not just one product in their line. I've mixed and matched for years. Unless you are using a certain brand for certain skin conditions like acne then it may be best to stick to their advice!
