Another extension/weave question - Beauty & Cosmetics Message Board

My hair has always been down my back. About a month ago I cut it off all the way to my ears. I HATE IT! I've been considering extensions or a weave but the only difference that I know of is a weave is sewn in, and extensions are fused to your hair. Which is better?

I am caucasian, so the "hair extension" places that I called today seemed shocked that I would ask about extensions or a weave. I had one lady flat out ask me "Are you white?"

At any rate, could anyone tell me how the fusion works? Do I have to go back and have them re fused every so often? I've read a few different posts where the hair is glued in, and only 2 weeks later a few tracks came out. I dont want to spend that kind of money if they are going to fall out. Is glued extensions and fusion the same thing?

Fusion is where they take small pieces of extension hair and glue it to small pieces of your hair at the root, usually about 200-300 pieces. It can cost a lot and you have to pay to have them removed and put more in in about three months. They also can mat really easily at the roots of your hair. I've worn all extension types and had them for 17 years. For me, I prefer bonding and doing it myself. I buy the extension hair and glue a few tracks together and then glue them into my hair wefted, with Liquid Gold Bond. Then after about two weeks, I just take them out and remove the glue from my hair, and put them in again. It's the cheapest method there is, since you can do it yourself. And I glue 3-4 wefts together (weft just under weft so it's not bulky) so I have less glue on my hair. I hope I'm making sense. LOL! Good luck!

Hmmm.. I couldn't do that anyway one handed. I cant lift my right arm above my head to do it myself. (old untreated rotator cuff injury)

Thanks for the reply, do you know how long a weave lasts? A weave seems to be much cheaper

I have the Posh cut,but I also wear my hair long,too.I ordered extensions online that just clips in.It only takes about 20-30 minutes to put them in and you can't even tell that it isn't my hair.

Once you start using extensions, you will be addicted!

I remember I had really long hair and dramatically cut it short. So I ran to my stylist and she suggested getting my extensions sown in instead of glued. They are affordable and very easy to manage. They last about 3 months or so but if you want them in for a longer period of time, then your answer is fusion. That could last up to a year depending on the maintenance. You need a special brush to comb your hair though.
