Good hair flattening iron ? - Beauty & Cosmetics Message Board

Hi,
I saw some hair straightening irons for as low as 14 $ (conair) and was wondering if they're good and decent for the hair ?
Any suggestion on good hair flattening irons with most bang for the buck ?

First of all let me start by saying I have very curly hair. I did buy a chi iron and used that for a year until it died on me. I didn't like it because I had to keep going over the hair to get it straight. If you have slightly wavy hair, a chi would work for you.

I have been using the Maxiglide for over 3 years now and love it. I would recommend it to anyone.

I have tried the inexpensive ones and they did not do the trick. HTH!

I have used the MAXIglide also for a about 2.5 years. It still works fine, but pulls on my hair which makes me mad. But I find the trick to not get it to pull hair out is to glide it really slow down my selected hair, and the slower you go, the less you have to "re-glide" those same pieces of hair, or not "re-glide" at all.

And yeah the Chi's work fine, but I suggest if you're going to get a Chi get one that has bigger plates like the MAXIglide, because even me with only wavy hair it takes forever to straighten with such little 1" plates.

I am a hairstylist, and I recommend a CHI. With extreamly curly hair, going over it more than once, is usually what you have to do, regardless of the iron. What I would do, is go to your local beauty supply (Sallys or something) and talk to the workers there. They might be able to suggest an iron that woudl work with your hair, in your price range..etc.
