help, teeth are discolored no matter what I do - Beauty & Cosmetics Message Board

I can't afford to get them done at the dentist so that's not an option. What can I do about this? I think it looks terrible. I have straight teeth from braces and yet they look so dingey.

Is there something at the drug or grocery store that will work best? I see stuff that nobody thinks is worth the money and the more expensive strips some people swear by.

Peroxide rinsing didn't help and I don't even beleive in those whitening toothpastes. I bet you could brush your teeth five times a day for two weeks and see no difference.

I made my teeth white after braces by having a custom try made and buying the whitener from the dentist. However, it bothered me that my husband's teeth were yellow so I mentioned it. He bought the Crest whitener strips at Costco. They worked. I have used them when I haven't had my bleach. They do go on sale and look for coupons.

Thanks Mel, I will get some of those Crest ones. It's so embarassing but I'll say it anyway, my teeth are actually going tan in color. You would think I drink 8 cups of coffee a day and smoke but I do neither. One cup of teacup-sized coffee is all I have in the morning.

I've tried Crest Classics before and they don't do anything. Neither I nor anyone else (whom I told that I was using them) noticed any difference whatsoever. I didn't want to use the Permium strips since I heard that they can potentially make teeth extremely sensitive, and that is the last thing I want to experience.

I have, however, heard that Rembrandt strips (which are close to $10 cheaper I believe) work wonderfully. There are tons of good reviews on those strips. I haven't tried them yet but I definitely plan on doing so soon. I also use the Rembrandt Intense Stain, and it definitely works for me. I only brush my teeth with it once a day (or sometimes every other day). I alternate between Rembrandt and a Colgate toothpaste mostily because I want better protection. I am not sure how well Rembrandt protects teeth in comparison to Crest or Colgate (since Rembrandt is mostly targeted toward whitening), so that's why I alternate. I also do that because the toothpaste is pretty expensive (almost $7 per 3oz tube) so I don't want to have to spend a bunch on toothpaste every month.

I would recommend that toothpaste and teh strips. If they don't make a difference than you probably need to save up and get them whitened at your dentist's office.

I have tried the Crest Premium white strips and DO agree not to use them if you have sensitive teeth. I actually had the professional Premium ones you have to buy through the dentist (at least back when I did) because they were stronger than the store white strips. They made my teeth throb and were so uncomfortable to use! However, I did notice a difference and I only used 1/3 of the strips in the box.

I'll have to try out those Rembrant strips and give them a try. If anyone else tries them before then, definitely let us know how they worked!
