NCGirl:

I think you said you went to Jemsek's Clinic. Do you have test results yet? My appt. was to be in 5 weeks, but they called me with a cancellation. I go tomorrow. I am so happy to be able to get this appt. behind me. If I went when my appt. was orginally scheduled, it would be the first of the year before getting my test back.

Hope to hear how you are doing.

Re: dizziness, numbing, tingling, and pressure right side of face

Hey Ral, where is the Jemsek's Clinic? Do they specialize in diagnosing weird, obscure symptoms? Anyway, Dback, to answer your question...I dont know what my next step is going to be. I guess I'll just wait until my next follow-up appointment with the neurologists and see what they say. I hate how I have to suffer for a month or more waiting to fit in an appointment with these doctors, only for them to tell me to follow-up with ENT doctors before they'll perform any more tests. It's almost like I'm being pushed around in a circle. In other words, Nuerology will tell me to follow-up with my sinuses and then the ENT Dr.s will tell me to follow-up with Nuerology. I thought John's Hopkins was better at coordinating your health care; I thought it was a "team approach". But, when I asked them about the "team approach", they told me the only place that uses several specialists to look at your system as a whole in a coordinated effort is the Mayo Clinic in MN. So, maybe that'll be my next step.

Alright, I've got a headache to attend to. Later everyone,

J.P.

I don't remember being bitten by a tick. Nor did I experience a rash. Everyone is different as far as the reactions that they have. Mine are listed below. Lyme is called the 'great imitator' because the symptoms are so close to other those of other diseases...lyme even produces lesions on the brain like MS does except those caused by lyme decrease in size when a person takes antibiotics.

I was finally diagnosed with Lyme and a tick borne coinfection called Babesiosis. Babesiosis is a malaria like infection which caused extreme dizziness and vertigo in the sense that I felt someone was pushing me down when I would lay down. I started out with nausea, the shakes, and lack of appetite. Major short term memory loss. I had no fever, in fact my temperature ran low, and blood pressure dropped. My veins protruded in my legs and when I did yoga the veins in my arm would pop out. It definitely causes inflammation of the vascular system. I had tingling in my extremities, horrible digestive issues, my scalp went numb a couple times, I had bizarre headaches that would originate at the base of my skull and radiate up in pulses. Motion sickness is part of it for me which I have never experienced before in my life.

There are so many symptoms I experienced in these 5 months - I started having heart palpitations and hair loss in the last couple weeks. Severe insomnia a few nights two months ago. My nervous system feels at times like it is on overload - tingling throughout my body and pulses of what feels like little electric jolts. I have had personality changes and I can't think straight at times. I went through periods of mild paranoia. I did not feel like myself at all.

Everyone reacts differently to tick borne illness. I am just starting to have joint stiffness after 6 months of being sick. I did not realize how many neurological issues lyme and coinfections can have.

I suggest seeing a lyme specialist and going through IgeneX labs in Palo Alto, CA if you decide to be tested since I had three tests through two traditional labs and none of them showed I tested positive.

Check out the lyme board here on Healthboards. If you need to find a lyme specialist post where you live and you will most likely get some names of doctors.

I wish you all well days ahead!

If you were bitten by a tick and didn't know it, how long does it take for lyme disease to really start causing neurological symptoms? I was bitten by one of these larger ticks about 3 years ago, and I am pretty sure it was on me for less than a day, though I can't remember. I removed it properly and never had any problems.

I'm not an outdoors person either, so since then I can pretty sure rule out this possibility.. but again, I don't know for sure. How long does it take for lyme disease to really take hold?

Please reply ASAP

thanx

Reneew4578:

Dr. Jemsek's clinic is in Huntersville, NC, north of Charlotte. He is an infectious disease specialists and seems to be one of the few lyme doctors in the state. Good luck...

Re: dizziness, numbing, tingling, and pressure right side of face

Wow... the symptoms in here are incredibly familiar! We have to keep this post going with anything we find out because I would LOVE to find out what causes those sensations.

The description of the boat is perfect!! It isn't vertigo, it is as if everything is moving up and down or side to side. Mine is at its worst when I awake. I swear I feel as if I am sinking into the mattress and rising again. One time I woke up and I swear the room was moving side to side. My weakness is undescribable. Standing in the shower is too complicated. I now take baths.

I have ENT appt. next week. I am thinking these problems might be relative to my TMJ. The pressure that inflamation of my jaw might be putting on my ears because I have extreme fullness. But the ringing in my head is constant nowadays. It isn't like tinnitus - that I experience as well. The ringing I have is just a constant high pitched sound, almost electrical, and it fills my entire head. I remember this sound from my whole life growing up. It is the sound I would hear in the wee hours of the morning if I stayed up too late. Now it is there 24/7 and I know for a fact I am sleeping WAY more than enough.

I also get eye ticks. Assuming it could be from computing but when I get it, it lasts for a month and it goes to BOTH eyes. Quite annoying. Last week it finally went away but at the end, my lids were even twitching when my eyes were closed.

But I get this pressure in my face. Like someone is pushing a pillow down hard over my face and nose. Pain in the sides of my nose with absolutely no sign of sinus drainage and intermittent sharp pains deep in my ear canal but I don't have an ear infection either. The other day, I kept wisping my hand over my face. I swear I had a cobweb on my nose and eye. I become obsessed with getting it off when I realized after looking in the mirror, there was nothing there. Just another unusual sensation under the skin.

I would chalk all this stuff up to just a bunch of minor little nuissances if it weren't for the debilitating fatigue. My blood work is showing high white cell counts and SED rate is elevated indicative of inflamation somewhere. I just left my doc in search of a new one. I signed up for a D.O. instead of an M.D. this time. I am hoping that a D.O. will listen to me for a change and make some sort of a connection. I am praying that they will tell me I have allergies and everything can be attributed to that. Then I can make lifestyle changes and go forward without wondering if it is something more serious.

Blessed Journeys ~

Hi everyone! How are you? I hope that when you reach this message you are all well. I'm Jimmy. I am 20 years old and will be 21 in december. I did a google online search with keywords "tingling lips" and I came up with this site. Upon reading some bit about the posts in this thread it encouraged me to register. I agree with you about having similar symptons, albeit one. Let me tell you what is happening to me if you may.

Just recently (about 2 days ago), I noticed that my lower lip was tingling and the left side of the lower lip shakes modestly at different intervals. I was very scared the first time when I came to the conclusion recently that that lip was shaking. I felt I needed support, because I'm just starting out in life to have this kind of problem. Well, so just recently noticed my lower lip moving involuntarily. It moves, then stops, and then moves after several seconds. Its scary. Please if anyone has a similar problem let me know. I need to know what is the cause of this. Could an injury to a nerve in the neck be the cause of this? I haven't injured my neck as far as I know. If my lower lip keeps tingling and shaking like I described above, I would need to see a doctor. I hope I won't need to do that. I can't even think of having this problem for a long while, lest say years. I hope this goes away on, I'll keep you informed. Pls someone let me know what is the cause of this problem, I've tried to look for information online but all I found is irrelevant to my case. I will appreciate any ray of light.

Sincerely,
Jimmy

Burning tongue is just one of many symptoms of Pernicious Anemia. please read other of my postings to read about it. It is one of the first symptoms along with many others to follow. Do an internet search of Pernicious Anemia and Subacute combined degeneration to read more about it.

Re: dizziness, numbing, tingling, and pressure right side of face

I see that a number of posters, including myself in this instance, mention computers as being possibly a factor relating to the symptoms of dizziness, numbing, tingling, and pressure, with dizziness perhaps being the central factor. It would be interesting to determine how many of the respondants to this post are, or have been, actively involved in doing work on a computer?

Re: dizziness, numbing, tingling, and pressure right side of face

Well, first of all I would like to thank google for letting me find this forum.

Here is my story.
About 8months ago, I wokeup oneday to find my hand completly dead ( no tingly/numb or pain whatsoever, I woke up normally not because of feeling in arm). The touched my arm, and it was very cold, I stood up and it was just hangin there, feld very heavy. After a minute the feeling came back. That was extremely scary, belive me, in that one minute, amputation came to mind.

That happned a few more times, sometimes I would wakeup and only my hand would sleep, sometimes, just a few fingeres and somtimes just the pinky.

That problem is now replaced by tingly ( and very slight numbness ) feeling over the left side of my face. First it was just my left cheek, now its the complete left side including nose, mouth, tonge, troaght. The feeling is slight with no paing at all. Did blood check, blood pressure, cholestarol, and just did a Brain and Neck MRI yesterday.

I will keep you posted about the MRI results.

As for for lyme desiese. 6 years ago, I woke up one day and saw a tick stuck to my left ribs, below my heart. I assume it had gotten me during the night. I removed it and it stayed red for a while but then it was ok.. I will mention this to my doctor next time.

thanks and please suggest anything you like

"I removed it and it stayed red for a while but then it was ok.."

If you were not treated for what appears to have been Lyme, could you safely assume that it just went away? I'm not sure that the spontaneous resolution spells relief. I'd be inerested in the result, as I, like many others, share symtoms much like yours, although my impression is the underlying causes vary significantly..

Hope things work out well for you, Bob

Re: dizziness, numbing, tingling, and pressure right side of face

Hi - I started out about two years ago trying to figure out what had happened to my face- it started out with a watery eye, dizziness, pressure on the right side of my face, tightness in my neck, facial twitches, etc. This is where I am now:

(posted on TMJ boards) I finally was diagnosed this summer with TMJ- after two years+ of going to specialist, including 2 neuro-otologists. I was first diagnosed with Bells Palsy, then I was told I had acoustic neuroma (brain tumor around your ear) and now I am told I have TMJ.
I am very insecure about my face...I have suffered with damage to the 7th facial nerve (from clenching and mis-alignment- I am told) so not only is my jaw crooked, but about 65% of the muscles on the right side of my face do not work properly and have started to atrophy. So I have a half-smile, my face is very crooked when talking or laughing. Also, my eye does not shut properly, and my tear duct does not work- which makes my eye very dry. I have a loss of hearing in my right ear (sounds like I have an ear muff on) and constant knots/tightness in my face/neck. I have experienced a numbness shooting down my arm into my hand before, but it is not a constant.

Has anyone else experienced this stuff to this degree? The doctors have no clue what to do with me...and it is very frustrating

I am still not 100% convinced that I have TMJ- but all my blood tests/ MRI have come back clean.

Re: dizziness, numbing, tingling, and pressure right side of face

Well the MRI tests came back OK. I am waiting on blood works (including Lyme test)

Physicaly still same situation with (very slight) tingling feeling on complete left side of face. Doctor said to wait around 2 months before taking further action... perhaps a spinal tap.. Damn that sounds painfull.

FilmRobe: hand in there, in time everything will be ok. Ask you doctor to refer with other specialits and perhaps sort things out for you.

thanks

Re: dizziness, numbing, tingling, and pressure right side of face

I have almost the same exact symptoms, you can see my journal at www.encgraphics.com/Journal.htm to see how it's progressing. I was just diagnosed with Epilepsy and Complex Partial Seizures. It's still hard to believe, but weird things happen. I had an EEG, that is how the neurologist came up with this diagnosis.
