Arrow Stiff face

Hi!

I have a stiff face and it is hard to hold a smile. This is bothering me greatly because I am known for always smiling and I want to show that I'm happy.

What could be causing this and what can I do to get rid of this?

I would greatly appreciate suggestions.

Re: Stiff face

Hi Mysterygirl, Welcome to the board!

Do you have Lyme Disease? Are you being treated?

If you are seeing a doctor it would be wise to contact him/her and let them know.

Bells Palsey is one of the symptoms of Lyme.

Re: Stiff face

Hi, jojo! Thanks!

Yes, I've had Chronic Lyme for about 8 years, but I just started getting treated a year ago because that's how long it took for me to get diagnosed.

I'm on Tetracycline and Plaquenil in addition to many supplements. I just stopped taking those two a few days ago to see if this could possibly be a side effect, even though I've had a stiff face since before I started this new antibiotic.

I called my LLMD last week, but I haven't gotten a response.

Yeah, I'm worried that this could be pre- Bell's Palsy or something else.

I've been massaging my face, but it doesn't help. I'm also going to see about acupuncture, though, to see if the stimulation would help.

Last night, I took a very hot shower and the steam made my face loosen up and I was able to smile for about an hour. Unfortunately, the effects weren't long-lasting, though.

I just want to smile so badly. People made comments to me all the time about how I'm always smiling. My smile is a part of me. I feel like I loose my identity without it.

Re: Stiff face

"If" I were you, I would keep calling my doctor. Maybe they can squeeze you in for a small appt. I would think if you were doing this before the med's though, then it isn't the med's. Just try and get in or talk to the doc.

I wish you a speedy recovery.
