Question Sister Developed Bell's Palsy After Delivery

Hello. I'm new to this board.
I'm hoping you guys can help me.

My sister's left side of her face became paralyzed her 3rd day postpartum after her C-Section for twins. She was started on Prednisone 60mg twice a day, followed by 10mg every 6 hours, titrating the dosage down over 10 days. She was also put on Valtrex 3x/day for 7 days (she has a history of cold sores).
A) Does this treatment sound correct? Would anyone add anything to it?
B) How long does an episode generally run? When should she expect to start to see improvements?
C) Anyone in Philly or NYC area....suggest a Bell's Palsy specialist?
D) Ways to keep eye moist/protect eye from damage?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

BB

Re: Sister Developed Bell's Palsy After Delivery

It sounds like they're doing the right thing. I had bells palsy about 8 years ago and this is the exact same thing I was treated with. I remember the doctor was insistent I was on steroids immediately and I haven't had a problem since. I also had cold sores on a frequent basis in my teens throughout my early 30's.

In a lot of cases it is a stressful situation that brings this on! Keep her stress level low; my doctor made me stay home from work for 1 week with follow up before returning. Hopefully she will recover quickly, with no residual symptoms or issues, like I did!

Keep the humor and make fun of her facial expressions once and a while, LOL!!

Important to keep the eye lubricated with drops! I was cured in 2 weeks with no noticeable symptoms.
