Do you think i am over medicated?? - Bipolar Disorder Message Board

Hello,
I am bi polar. Have been diagnosed for about 1 year now. anyway, I am on trileptal 600 mg 3 times a day, klonipin .5 mgs 2 times a day, abilify 30 mgs, geodon 200 mgs, paxil 87.5 mgs, respirdal as needed usually about 3 or 4 mgs a day. I take all of this and i am still manic!!! The geodon, abilify and respirdal all don't cover it. Does anyone else think this is rediculous?? I mean that is just so much. Luckily i have minimal side effects. I gained alot of weight but that is about it. Some times i think that my doc just throwing meds at me to pacify me. I can't go see another doc cause she is the only one that insurance covers. I could go to a state psych but are they really any good. I really like my doc but sometimes i just don't think she knows what she is doing. Has anybody else been on this stuff? Any suggestions?? would really appreciate it. Holly

I don't know if I even want to touch this question! Yikes!

I am on geodon 80mg once a day, Prozac 40 mg once a day and 150 mg of welbutrin three times a day, if that gives you any idea how much you're on in comparision. That's allot of antid's I'm on I think. Not that I don't need them, it's just allot.

If you're that unhappy with you doc or afraid she's over medicating you you need to tell her. Remember she works for you. Even if you like her though she might not be the right doc for you. A state psych. might just work out for you but, that's all things you're going to need to weigh for yourself.

I would suggest that you educate yourself on your meds and make a list of questions like "Why am I on so many mood stabilizer at one time?". There's lots of web info on most of your meds because I've investigated some of them myself. Just do a search. That will help you figure out what questions you want to ask.

Maybe not over-medicated, but you sound mis-medicated. You've been taking a truckload of drugs for a year with no improvement in your condition.
