Paxil was the first psychotropic medicine I was ever put on, and it is not a medicine I look back fondly upon.
Not only did it do absolutely nothing for my mood, but it also increased the frequency, severity, and length of the panic attacks I was ALREADY having.
However, a lot of people have had success with it, so don't go only by me. But also, just know that Paxil is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor), and SSRIs are notorious for throwing bipolars into manias if they are not also taking a mood stabilizer with it. Be careful!
Just doing what's quintsessential...
I started out on Paxil for depression and anxiety and I hated it! I did go completly manic, which they thought was axiety, so they raised the dosage, which made it worse. That is when I was diagnosed with bipolar. Coming off of the Paxil was even worse. I had terrible withdrawals. Now I am taking Effexor, which I think is an SSRI?, and lithium, and am feeling much better.
