Triggering a manic episode...

Ok, I have a sort of dumb question. I've heard that when some people get depressed, they will take an extra dose of medicine to provoke a manic episode or some sort of normalcy compared to depression. Is this true? Is there a "cure" to depression episodes?

Love,
Deanne

P.S. Jamie...its good to have you back!

Re: Triggering a manic episode...

I know when I have been depressed and od'd on my meds it was just to feel different or make something different happen because I was so sick of feeling the same way. If that makes any sense. It doesn't really work for a cure though, believe me. Love, Lori

Re: Triggering a manic episode...

I have. Taking an extra anti-depressant has helped me pull out of depression. But it has also triggered me to start rapid-cycling if I don't take them as directed.
If I can't function cause I'm so down, and I have a family to take care of....sometimes it seems worth it....

Re: Triggering a manic episode...

Deanne,

If this was anyone else I'd say don't mess with your meds without a doctors advice but, that pretty stupid in your case.

I would try upping my meds a little bit to see what happens. I don't remember what you're takeing but go slow. When I was in my last depression, my doc uped my prozac 10 mg. and my welbutrin 150 mg. We kept them there though. I don't just take a pill to get out of my depression. I have to take them to stay out of depression.

I am thinking about asking about lowering my prozac but, I think the idea will be nixed because of my bulimia. It's one of the meds they recommend for it.

I hope this finds you well.

Let us know what you decide.

Love,

Jamie

Hi ! From Gee Gee

You may have seen my posts on here, about various different subjects,
and illnesses/conditions.
I decided tonight to join this post. This is where I certainly need to be,
I think.

I know what you mean about dumb questions. I feel this way TOO !
I promise, I do NOT think your question is dumb in ANY way !

I was diagnosed as ' Bipolar ', in 1985 ! I am doing a LOT better these days.
I do have to take several meds., to keep everything going smooooooothly.
I have a GREAT P Doctor, who helps me do this.

I can only speak from my own experiences, to hopefully help someone else.
I would NEVER mess around with my medications. I pay my P Doctor waaay
too much money to come home and ' Doctor myself ! ' lol.

And, I DO think this is a most dangerous situation for anyone to be in.

Soooooooo, therefore I do not qualify to answer either of your questions.

Maybe you should consult someone who IS quilified to answer your questions,
or get in contact with a P Doctor.

I wish you well, and I hope you find your answers.........,

Gee Gee

Re: Triggering a manic episode...

Jamie- Thank you for the advice! I decided to up it a little and today, I feel much better. How are you doing?? I love ya, girl.

Geegee- Thanks for your help. I should've explained my situation before asking the question. I am in the Middle East and am having trouble with my visa. Without my resident permit, I cannot get a Medical card. Without a med card, I cannot go to a doctor. Crazy, huh?? Anyway, I have run out of meds except my zoloft which I can get over the counter here. So, I am sort of having to rely on research to solve my problems for now. Thanks again for the support. I needed it
By the way, why would anyone be mad at you?! You really gave me some great support!

Thank y'all...

Love,
Deanne

Whew ! Hi ! Deanne,

I was afraid I had said the wrong thing.

I certainly DO know what you mean about your situation.

I wanted to tell you that one of my Daughters does this very thing. She
helps people with their Visa's and a LOT of other things !!!
She is a Spanish AND English teacher. She has helped sooo many people,
with a lot of their problems.
And maybe she would know some of your answers to your questions.

If you would like, you could tell me what to ask her, and she might have some advice about this, I just know she would know what to tell you
to do.
So, let me know, okay ?

I hope you get this situation resolved.

Let me hear from you, okay ?

Take Care,

Gee Gee

Re: Triggering a manic episode...

Hey Geegee...actually Nic and I are going to Immigration on Sunday to talk to the Head of Immigration. Hopefully, we can get it situated. If that doesnt work, I may have some questions for your daughter. Thank you so much for your help.

LOve,
Deanne

Re: Triggering a manic episode...

Deanne,

Glad I could help in some small way. Will be keeping my fingers crossed that you get good news from imigrations.

GeeGee,

Why would anyone be mad at you? We just knew the situation and you didn't. You post what you think you need to. In any other situation I would say the same thing. It was very generous of you to offer to help.

Love,

Jamie
